Vienna is a child- and family-friendly city. One indication of this is that children up to the age of 15 (with valid photo ID) can use Wiener Linien public transport (subway, bus, and tram) free of charge on Sundays, public holidays, and during Vienna school holidays.

So nothing stands in the way of family fun.

Children’s tour of Schönbrunn Palace:

This tour, designed especially for children, focuses on the 16 children of Empress Maria Theresa. Afterwards, the children can try on costumes.

At the children’s museum “Experience Schönbrunn Palace,” your children can immerse themselves in the daily court life of the imperial children: How do you properly greet Empress Sisi, and how do you communicate using the language of the fan? As a crowning finale, the little ones may dress up as princes and princesses.

Schönbrunn Maze, Labyrinth & Labyrinthikon:

Fun for the whole family is guaranteed here. Once reserved exclusively for the imperial family, you can now stroll through the Schönbrunn maze with your loved ones. Once you reach the goal, you can watch others “getting lost” from a viewing platform.

The labyrinth invites visitors to explore its play gardens, as does the Labyrinthikon, a playground featuring a climbable bird machine, an Archimedean screw for water transport, and much more.

Schönbrunn Palace Marionette Theatre:

Royal entertainment for the whole family, just as in the days of Empress Maria Theresa, with Mozart’s most popular opera, “The Magic Flute.” www.marionettentheater.at

Schönbrunn Zoo:

The people of Vienna are proud of their zoo, because even giant pandas feel so comfortable here that they have offspring. Schönbrunn Zoo is the oldest zoo in the world and at the same time one of the most modern. Enjoy an exciting day with your family at Schönbrunn Zoo. Observe your favorite animals, take the panorama train to the original Tyrolean farmhouse, and enjoy hearty Austrian home-style cooking there.

Hofburg – Sisi Museum:

In the Imperial Apartments, both young and old can learn everything about the beautiful Empress Elisabeth. Discover all there is to know about her magnificent dresses, her daring horseback rides, her beauty recipes to try at home, and much more. The Vienna Prater:

A colorful world of adventure with more than 250 attractions offers fun for the whole family right in the heart of Vienna. The Prater is a place of soaring experiences and, for example, the Giant Ferris Wheel offers a great view over the city.
But when locals talk about the Prater, they do not mean the ghost trains and rides, but rather a 6 km² riverside landscape. Even Emperor Franz and his Sisi once walked here to escape the stress of everyday life. Forests and meadows are open to those seeking relaxation from 10 a.m. to midnight, weather permitting. Numerous playgrounds and play meadows provide entertainment for children.

On the Blue Danube:

On board one of the “Blue Danube Shipping” sightseeing boats, you and your children can experience the “great” Danube in all its splendor. Danube Island:

You can easily reach this oasis for all kinds of sports enthusiasts by taking the U1 subway line (Donauinsel station) (swimming, skating, cycling, sailing, surfing, water skiing, rowing, running, barbecuing, and walking).

At the Old Danube, you will also find bathing areas with large sunbathing lawns and playgrounds.

If your little ones want to aim high, we recommend a visit to the Danube Tower, from whose 150-meter-high observation terrace you can overlook Vienna and its surroundings. A wonderful restaurant at a breathtaking height also spoils you with culinary delights. www.donauturm.at

Children’s World Oberlaa:

Relaxation and bathing fun at Therme Wien, not far from Pension Kasper (15 minutes by tram, 5 minutes by car).
The water play park with two mini slides, a waterfall, and small water sprayers is the attraction for the youngest guests. All year round, the 80-meter-long Black Hole slide with light and sound effects is available as a special experience. Free children’s entertainment is offered every Monday and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. with water games, arts and crafts, storytelling, face painting, and much more. www.oberlaa.at
